One of my favorite pastimes when I’m not writing or researching is reviewing the most recent UFO sightings. A couple of years ago I had a “run-in” during my research (long story) with one of the Forum Moderators over at UFO Casebook. I took the issue straight to B.J. Booth, the well-known UFO researcher and owner of the UFO Casebook. After this issue was resolved and we exchanged several cordial emails, I asked B.J. to add me to his Casebook newsletter distribution.

This means that every week or so, I receive an email with B.J.’s latest articles and news. He does a good job covering most of the current issues throughout Ufology, and this week I was very pleased to see an update that included three stories of recent UFO sightings that took place in various spots around the world.

Recent UFO Sightings over Heathrow Airport

The first of three stories includes that of a UK citizen who works near Heathrow airport and at 8:50 A.M. in the morning he spotted what he described as “a spherical, silver object which was emitting alternate red and blue lights.” The story was somewhat fascinating, until the witness reported seeing, “15-20 spherical objects in the sky” all at the same time over Heathrow Airport. The manner he described them, I could almost imagine the man mistaking eye problems for objects in the sky. However, this was only the first of the three stories. While this one, which you can read more about if you wish, wasn’t terribly impressive - the last one, with photographic evidence, really captured my interest.

A Bright South Carolina UFO

The next story wasn’t actually very recent, but it was interesting nevertheless. In this account, the witness and his girlfriend were walking along the ocean on Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina in 1980. The sighting starts with a flickering star in the distance, hovering just above a ship. After that, the light hovered back and forth with a light shining down toward the ground. The witnesses assumed that the object was a helicopter until it (and several other saucer shaped objects) approached the beach (within 100 yards of the witnesses), causing them to panic and run. The account becomes far more credible when the witness writes:

“Knowing something trumps believing in something, and this is scary knowledge which few people are ready to hear about. I’ve never seen a picture or video or description to match what we saw that night. Only in the general sense of being saucer-shaped. I’ve been looking now for 29 years and this craft is still unique in appearance and behavior.”

The fact that the witness doesn’t try to ascribe the craft to anything that already exists within the UFO subculture hints that his story and his experience is authentic.

A Bright South Carolina UFO

The last story from the UK is, by far, the most interesting. Nurse Sue Hentschel and her teen daughter Jessica witnessed strange orange lights hovering over Hazeldene School on November 2nd of 2009.. There are two aspects of this story that I find both amazing and shocking. The amazing part is the evidence - I always love evidence - in the form of a somewhat fuzzy mobile phone image that Jessica captured.

The shocking part is the description of the other drivers that the nurse described - reminiscent of the surreal, brainwashed society of Orwell’s 1984. She writes:

“I was looking over at other people’s cars to see if they noticed but everyone was just trying to get home, traveling along in a daze.”

The witnesses describe one light shooting “up into the sky at a million miles an hour” and the other simply disappearing. Both the nurse and her daughter were affected in a profound way by the sighting. Unfortunately the effects are negative, not positive. The mother reports that the teen daughter is terrified of the potential for an abduction experience.
