Only a day after Gordon Novel was interviewed by George Knapp on Coast 2 Coast on January 17th, Ron Pandolfi started contacting his Ufology sources for feedback about the interview.

I was personally contacted via text chat this week by Ron Pandolfi, and he asked about the Gordon Novel interview. I informed him that Gordon had “called him out” on a national radio program. Ron appeared unconcerned with the revelation. Interestingly, he shared a metaphor about Gordon Novel - implying that he was used as an experiment to, as he put it, “…to have Gordon live within the pack and compete for dominance.”

The wolf metaphor made some sense - considering that Gordon’s place within the fringe scientific community he was mingling with was one where he carried the promise of funding. With that promise, the scientists always follow. Watching from the shadows over the past few years, as events unfolded around RAM, I was personally perplexed by a man like Ron who works in the ODNI and studies potential cutting edge science for the JASON group, would have any sort of interest in a nutty character like this.

The wolf metaphor put things somewhat into perspective. The idea may not have been to have Gordon and his claims taken seriously, but to inject him into a seedy world of junk science in order to “live within the pack and compete for dominance.”

Understanding Ron Pandolfi and the Wolverine

While this may not answer all questions regarding Ron’s motives, the contact via Google Chat was a revelation in itself. Because shortly after I had this conversation with Ron about the wolf metaphor, Jerry Pippen (of the Jerry Pippen Show) wrote the following comment to Jack Sarfatti’s large email distribution list on January 15th, 2010.

“Jack be careful according to deep background briefing the Wolverine is watching and listening..
Jerry”

After Jack Sarfatti is openly perplexed by the reference, Jerry explains:

“I was told the Wolverine was a code name for Gordon?”

Of course, in this field, UFO nutters would call a simple IM text chat a “deep background briefing.” However, what this told me was that Ron very likely has a collection of Ufology “contacts” that he now keeps in touch with utilizing Instant Messaging. The immediate correlation between Jerry’s own “background briefing” with the comments shared with me only a day or so earlier told me that Ron is feeding the same information to everyone.

And then, as confirmation of the new IM approach to “data collection,” Dan Smith recently published the following exchange at the forum that he frequents.

January 2010 Chat Between Ron Pandolfi and Dan Smith:

Ronald: Anything interesting from Gordon radio?
Sent at 7:54 PM on Monday

me: Are you prepared to be interviewed?

Ronald: About what?
Did Gordon say anything interesting?

me: about you & Gordon.
Sent at 8:00 PM on Monday

Ronald: Actually I was wondering if Gordon said anything regarding Princess [xxxxx].

me: I had not previously understood Gordon’s interactions with the White House.
No. He is not that dumb.
Or not that smart….
Sent at 8:03 PM on Monday

Ronald: Gordon had interactions with the White House?
Sent at 8:05 PM on Monday

me: Yes, related to the plumbers.

Ronald: I think he invented those connections
But somehow connected with Shaheen

me: He was told to verify that the erasure was inadvertent. He said so, but knew better.

Ronald: Someone mentioned Shaheen was involved in paying off Watergate burglers
Gordon told me he was paid to try and erase the tape using EMP

me: Yes, and Robert got involved in paying off Gordon.
May I quote you?

Ronald: Well none of that shows up in official records, so perhaps Gordon made it all up

me: Official? Is that good or bad?

Ronald: It means Gordon most like fabricated the story
Watergate commission was very complete

me: Shall I tell Gary that you are ready to be interviewed about Gordon?

Ronald: and of course Washington Post reporters were good investigators in those days
As always you should tell Gary that you speak for me!

me: Gary should ask Gordon for specifics.

Ronald: And speaking for me, tell Gary that [I] think he is a lunatic

me: Ok. I tell him that all of us are lunatics.

Ronald: Good

[ ---- Ron's personal (princess) stuff ------ ]

Part of the answer to why Ron remains involved and in contact with so many Ufologists came, in part, with an email conversation with one of his friends and his predecessor who once wrote to me that Ron has apparently found a way to suffer fools gladly.

This implies that number one, Ron has no other choice in the matter. Number two - if you have to do a job, you might as well have a little bit of fun while you’re at it. Practical jokes are venal to some people and funny to others - I suppose it all depends on your sense of humor.
