As time goes by, we dig into conspiracy theories, real-life secret government projects and glimpses of spy games in our midst. We look for the truth, and sometimes we find it.
One thing that I can say is an ultimate truth is that in spite of a government that harbors unfortunate skeletons in its closet, and over-funded black operations the likes of which would make the most liberal citizens squeamish, a constant theme through all of these stories is the resolve of the American soldier.
Despite being used as test subjects in countless government nuclear, chemical and biological experiments, despite being placed in harms way without appropriate protections in many wars, and despite feeling the brunt of the pain for countless ill-conceived and poorly-planned operations across the world – the American soldier still stands as an example of the resolve, honor and courage that makes the citizens of this fine country very proud.
And to foreign readers from across the globe, the brave men and women who serve within the ranks of your military are no different. They are made up of people willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect and save others.

The same holds true for the honorable field agents and analysts within the intelligence services, the federal agents that truly 'protect and serve' on our own soil, the countless supporting crew that maintain, refuel and repair the machinery that makes the nation strong, and of course the scientists that toil in government and university laboratories to push our level of knowledge and information to the forefront.
These are all people who devote their lives to the greater goal of creating a better country - a stronger, smarter and wiser country - for our children, and for their children as well.
There are many dark days behind us, as a nation. Many of those deeds will be revealed here at TopSecretWriters and probably throughout the news as more and more documents get declassified. As we learn more about the darkness and misdeeds of our nation's past, we need to take time to reflect upon the good things - the honorable actions and deeds of our men and women in uniform - that make us remain proud of our country, despite the past.
So, to all veterans out there, I would like to take this moment to wish you a very happy Veterans Day. Thank you for your service.
