40-year-old Abedin is glamorous and charismatic, and has been by the side of the Clintons since her days as an intern at the White House when Bill Clinton was president. This loyal Clinton staffer was vice chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Amid the post-defeat period of Democratic doom, blame has reached Clinton’s inner-circle and closest advisors, in particular Huma Abedin.
Who is Huma Abedin?
Providing fodder for the finger of blame towards Adebin is a trove of emails between Clinton and Abedin that have only just been released. A total of 1,539 email communications between Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin have been discovered that failed to be disclosed to the FBI.
A (1) document known as Part 6 of the Hillary Clinton Investigation released by the FBI, describes how an analyst discovered 1,539 work-related emails between Clinton and Abedin, which had not been previously disclosed.
The trove of emails, which were hacked from (2) John Podesta, the Clinton Campaign Chairman, showed Abedin as a leading resource for the Clinton presidential campaign.
The emails show how Abedin offered guidance on Clinton’s likely thoughts on forthcoming meetings, events and phone calls, even before such thoughts reached Hillary Clinton. As (3) Fox News notes in a feature of Abedin and Clinton’s inner-circle being blamed for the presidential defeat:
“While her fingerprints don’t often appear on policy issues, she weighed in with authority on most other matters.”
One source told Vanity Fair that during the presidential campaign, Clinton’s inner circle grew smaller and smaller, with her core group remaining the same, comprising of a tight circle of advisors, including Abedin. The source said that the closeness of the inner circle created problems, prompting, as Abedin’s emails revealed, dismissive answers when fresh ideas bred from outside the circle were suggested.
Clinton Insiders Point Fingers
Another Clinton insider told (4) Vanity Fair that Abedin enjoyed the red-carpet limelight too much, which created further issues.
“She was enjoying the red carpet and enjoying the photo spreads too much in my opinion. She enjoyed being a celebrity too much,” the insider told Vanity Fair.
Some commentators have also brought up Huma Abedin’s estranged husband Anthony Weiner, the former congressman who was caught up a sexting scandal. In August 2016, during the height of the presidential campaign, the (5) New York Post published a report about how Weiner was caught sexting another woman. Hours later, Abedin, announced her separation from her husband.
Suggestions had been made that Abedin should be relegated for her husband’s sexting antics. However, according to (6) New York Times reporter Amy Chozcick, who writes predominantly about Hillary Clinton and her family, Clinton appeared to “countermand those who suggested that Abedin should be relegated on behalf of the sexting antics of her spouse, the randy former congressman Antony Weiner.”
Someone to Blame
Angry Democrats are of course searching for something or someone to blame for their shocking defeat to Trump and the Republicans. This latest source of blame, spawned by yet another trove of telling emails between Clinton’s inner circle that had failed to be disclosed, shows there were issues at the heart of Clinton’s campaign, issues that may have contributed to costing Clinton the presidency.
