The Latest on the Clinton FBI Email Investigation
The Hillary Clinton email scandal was a major campaign issue, kept in the limelight by then candidate Donald Trump. The lack of interest by the mainstream media (MSM) was surprising to many Americans. After the 2016 Presidential election, MSM chose to focus on various Russian conspiracy theories while watch dog groups still pursued the story. Some took action to uncover the truth. One such group is Judicial Watch.

Judical Watch FOIA Request

In its diligent pursuit to uncover the truth, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeking Hillary Clinton’s emails from the time she was Secretary of State (2009 – 2013) (1).

These are the infamous 33,000 emails that Clinton supposedly attempted to delete from her secret “non-government server”. That server was run by a “mom and pop” company operating out of a “converted residential apartment” and housed the servers in a bathroom closet (2).

In its weekly update, Judicial Watch reported that some of the emails in question included those Huma Abedin (Clinton’s aide) sent. Those emails were discovered during an FBI investigation of her then husband Anthony Weiner for possible child pornography when he was caught sexting and sending photos of himself to a 15-year-old girl. When his laptop was confiscated, investigators found Clinton emails that Abedin had forwarded to Weiner to print out for her (3).

Federal Hearing and Slow Progress

Judicial Watch (JW) stated that the purpose of the hearing was “focused on the State Department’s progress on processing the emails.” JW further explained that the State Department was “ordered to produce documents to Judicial Watch.” However, the State Department is only processing 500 pages each month that account for a total of 17 batches so far. JW states that the slow pace of this process means not only the Clinton emails, but also other records surrounding the FBI investigation won’t be available for release until sometime in 2020.

The FBI has provided 7,000 records they “recovered from Weiner’s laptop”. The documents will need to undergo a review before they can be released to the public. Even though the legal team for JW attempted to get the State Department to move the process quicker, the Justice Department attorney argued that the State Department shouldn’t be required to push the documents through faster since there is a “supposed diminished interest in Clinton emails ‘since November’!”

According to JW, in addition to this excuse the attorney “blamed President Trump’s hiring freeze as another reason the records are dribbling out.”

A “Matter” Not an Investigation?

In June 2017, Politico reported that former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Comey stated he “felt queasy” when former Attorney General Loretta Lynch instructed him to refer to the FBI’s investigation over Hillary Clinton’s private email server as a “matter” (4).

The New York Post reported that what Loretta Lynch did “reeks of obstruction”. Another complication for Lynch is the secret meeting on the tarmac that she had with former President Bill Clinton just five days before Hillary was interviewed by the FBI concerning her emails (5).

Another complication for Lynch is that she didn’t recuse herself from the investigation after that meeting. Nor did she recuse herself when that meeting was made public and Comey confronted her about it.

Letter to Lynch

That same month the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Lynch concerning the Russian intelligence memo. This was a memo that the FBI discovered. The memo incriminates Lynch as obstructing the FBI investigation and colluding with the Clinton campaign. According to the memo contents, Lynch “assured Renteria [Clinton’s campaign aide] that the investigation into Clinton’s emails would not go too far.” (6)

In July 2017, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch denied ever making these assurances to Amanda Renteria about the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server (7).
In a response letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Lynch’s attorney wrote, “Ms. Lynch does not know Ms. Renteria, did not discuss the Clinton email investigation with Ms. Renteria, and did not communicate to Ms. Renteria, either in words or in substance, that ‘she would not let the FBI investigation into Clinton go too far’.”

FBI Investigation and Clinton Emails

While mainstream media has moved on from the Clinton email scandal, the American people have not. Watch dog groups like Judicial Watch are still pursuing and the Senate Judiciary Committee will likely hear the testimony of Loretta Lynch concerning her role in the FBI’s investigation.
