In a video published to YouTube on September 29th by a user named NEO2012anonymous, the group Anonymous announced that it would be staging a march on November 5th, 2013.
In the video, a digitized voice requests anyone of any political affiliation to grab their mask and join the ranks, because, “…in the end, isn’t it just us peasants against the monarchs?”
From the YouTube video page there is a link to the event website, the MillionMaskMarch.org. The website claims that there are a total of 430 locations planned for the march, and the entire global event has no central person or group in charge of it – which is the MO of Anonymous. (1)
The center of the web page features an inspiring video for the theme song of the March, “We’re Gonna Trip the Light”, with an announcement underneath the video that there is an “Open Mic and Dance Party” planned at the Washington Monument.
The YouTube video announcing the march tomorrow, on November the 5th, is signature Anonymous – complete with the digitized and unrecognizable voice, and video clips featuring various people marching while wearing the Guy Fawkes mask that has become synonymous with the Anonymous movement.
The voice on the video states:
“We, together, must act in solidarity. No longer can we maintain the ‘Me’ or ‘My political party’ mentality, when we are all affected by governments that do not listen to their people’s wishes. Together, we must stand tall and remind this world what it has forgotten — that Fairness, Justice and Freedom are more than just words.”
The video goes on to explain that the world has become too accepting of the treachery of world governments. The “…silent majority are a minority if their voices are not heard.” And finally explains that, “…we will wear masks to show our solidarity, and that we are one in the belief that all of our governments have failed humanity, completely.”
The 5th of November
I’ve been asked often why members of Anonymous wear the Guy Fawkes “V for Vendetta” mask during rallies and protests. I always forward them to the article I wrote about the Anonymous masks back in 2011. The bottom line is that without a face to target, authorities and corrupt leaders have no individual to target – the entire movement becomes a faceless ideal by design. It’s a movement without a leader to arrest, without a headquarters to raid, and without a group to lock up in prison.
Why have a protest on the 5th of November? The date was most certainly chosen for its significance in the “Gunpowder Plot” of 1605. It is also known as the Gunpowder Treason Plot, because it refers to a failed plot by a group of English Catholics who had placed a large amount of explosives under the House of Lords in order to assassinate Protestant King James.
Guy Fawkes was found guarding the stash, and eventually he and his collaborators were executed for their treachery. November 5th was forever celebrated as the day the King survived the assassination attempt. It is the British Holiday – Guy Fawkes Day.
Poet John Milton later penned the words:
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Oddly enough, today – four centuries later – Guy Fawkes Day has taken on a completely different meaning. It has become an occasion “for riot, disturbance, and displays of misrule among the lower classes”. (2)
Reasons to Rally
In today’s world – where a government feels that it’s necessary and okay to spy on the phone records and perform unbelievably invasive surveillance on the Internet activities of regular American citizens, it is easy to come up with one or two reasons to stand up against the government on the 5th of November.
In a world where surveillance drones are being considered by local authorities, and where governments call whistleblowers who reveal their treachery “criminals” – it’s a very easy path to walk that leads to an Anonymous rally on the 5th of November. It’s harder to come up with reasons not to protest.
Even if you can’t make it to the Washington National Monument, there is a map available on the march website, that shows all 430+ locations on a map.
The map reveals just how widespread protest plans are – locations are around the entire world and even stretch into South America, Africa, Australia, Alaska and everywhere in between.
So, get out your Guy Fawkes mask, put it on, and take a drive over to your local protest. Stand in solidarity with your fellow citizens – stand against government corruption and abuse of power. Stand for justice, fairness and freedom for all.
