When the little girl quizzed Obama whether aliens were real, the President rather noncommittally asked the girl what she thought about aliens. The girl admitted she thought aliens were real after she watched a TV program about them. After the attempt at light-hearted humor, the President replied:
“The truth is we haven’t actually made direct contact with aliens yet, but when we do I’ll let you know.”
This recent quizzing about alien existence on The Ellen Show isn’t the first time President Obama had been asked for his views on extra-terrestrial life.
In 2015, Barack Obama was asked about aliens by late night chat show host Jimmy Kimmel. When asking the President to “come clean” about UFOs, Obama responded with, similar to his recent response on The Ellen Show, a series of noncommittal and blithe responses.
At one point Obama hit back with: “The aliens won’t let it happen. You’d reveal their secrets, and they exercise strict control over us. Can’t reveal anything” (2).
Is the President Hiding a Secret?
Kimmel pressed the President further, teasingly informing him that Clinton had admitted to looking into government files on UFOs and finding nothing. Obama hit back with an even more teasing reply saying: “Well, you know, that’s what we’re instructed to say.”
As the Huffington Post points out, there have been times during his presidency that Obama has made other bold remarks related to UFOs and aliens, including being probed about alien existence when the president visited Roswell, New Mexico.
So is President Obama’s noncommittal and tongue-in-cheek responses when grilled about extra-terrestrial existence merely light-hearted humor, or do the responses suggest the President has something to hide and the possibility that aliens really do exist?
Talking to the Huffington Post, Jan Harzan, executive director of the UFO research network, Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), believes that being probed about such topics poses difficulties for any president, namely because if they admit to not knowing anything about the subject they do not “look too smart.”
“If [presidents] do know something they can’t talk about, then they can’t really talk about it. Making a joke out of it at least diffuses the situation. Now, that said, I honestly don’t think we’re ever going to get an admission from a sitting president that the US has any knowledge of UFOs or ETs. I just don’t see it happening.”
Of course the fact President Obama doesn’t immediately dismiss the idea of extra-terrestrial life and chooses to make light of the situation and provide noncommittal answers, is enough to give many a UFO believer fodder.
To UFO believers, they simply deem it as testament that alien life does exist and that ‘those in higher places’ know it exists but are unwilling to share their knowledge with Joe Public.
Being quizzed about aliens at least shows politicians have a sense of humor about secret alien files (3).
What are your thoughts on President Obama’s tongue-in-cheek comments about ETs and UFOs? Proof aliens do exist and the government is covering them up or testimony that the President acknowledges the ludicrousness of the suggestion?
